We are settling into our new surroundings in Valencia, Spain and discovering many new things to do. And we’re getting lost a lot less! If you’ve been around me for any time at all, you know that my morning routine is important to me. Not just because I like structure but because it sets the tone for your entire day.
After we lost our beloved dog Jax a month ago, I got out of the habit of morning walks. I know that it’s important to get sun on your face first thing in the morning. It reinforces your circadian rhythm and helps you sleep at night. But without Jax, no one was relying on me to get exercise. With our move to Valencia I had so much to do already, that the walks just fell off.
Getting into a Routine
Valencia, Spain is eight hours ahead of where I was living in Colorado. The time change and the different eating schedule and lifestyle, were all things I needed to get used to. But for some reason, I just couldn’t get it sorted out. I’ve always been the earlier riser in our household, but my husband was beating me out of bed every morning. What was happening?!
We’ve been using an app to practice our Spanish and he was getting up first thing to get out and walk and complete the day’s lesson. Last week I decided to do the same thing and it has been a game changer. I started sleeping better and I feel more aligned and in flow with my days. Think about adding a morning walk to your day when you’re traveling to help you get into the groove!
Now one of my favorite things to do here in Valencia, is explore the park that surrounds the city first thing. Well, after I have a cup of coffee. 🙂
